Camping
Troop 711 goes on a camping trip almost once a month. The majority of the outings are backpacking trips. Scouts carry their packs to the campsite instead of driving because physical fitness and self-reliance are two of Scoutings objectives. Scouts learn not only how to do things for themselves, but also how to work together as a team to acheive a common goal. Troop 711's camping emphasis is on adventure rather than convenience. Scout camping demands skill and know-how. Scouts always travel to and from an outing in uniform. Each Scout, in order to participate in a specific trip, MUST have a permission slip for that activity signed by a parent or guardian, and turned in at the regular Scout meeting preceding that activity.
Equipment
The troop provides tents, campstoves, cookware, lanterns for the Scouts. Additional personal equipment is required see the equipment list or Backpack Pack List for additional details. Tent/sleeping and Menu arrangements are scheduled at the troop meetings prior to each campout. Each scout is required to pay a small fee to cover the cost of camping and food for each campout. Occasionally, you may be asked to help provide transportation for a campout. You may transport only the number of Scouts for which you have seatbelts. We ask each parent to arrange their schedule so that they can drive on at least one outing per year.
Summer Camp
Troop 711 attends summer camp during July at Camp Hi Sierra. Camp is for one week, starting on a Sunday, endng on Saturday. Camp activities include swimming, boating, crafts, merit badges, trail to first, and for the older scouts, high adventure. Troop 711 always has a strong showing of adult leaders at Summer Camp.
